❤️ THE ROLE THAT WILL OUTLIVE YOU
Today’s Lead Actor Weekly is different. I’m writing this to you straight from the heart.
I just spent two weeks with my family just north of Toronto. My brother Chris came up from NYC and we stayed with my dad Fred and my stepmom Lois near Orillia.
Some of you may have noticed I had fewer sessions on the schedule. Big love and thanks to Brandon Knox and our coaches for stepping up while I stepped back.
Now here’s the truth...
As actors, it’s easy to feel like you need to say yes to everything.
Every audition. Every gig. Every "opportunity".
But sometimes, chasing the next “yes” can quietly rob us of the things we love most.
I’ve been there.
More than once I skipped family moments for a shot at a gig I thought might "change everything".
But let me tell you something I now know in my bones:
There’s no audition more important than being fully present with the people who love you.
No callback will ever replace those moments that matter.
Your acting life should support your family life, not steal from it.
Last week, my family and I attended the celebration of life for a close family friend. He was in his 80th year.
A beloved music teacher who inspired thousands, including my brother who went on to become a professional musician as a result of this man's influence.
We weren’t just mourning. We were celebrating.
Stories. Music. Laughter. Legacy.
He didn’t leave behind viral clips or a massive list of IMDB credits.
He left behind love.
And that’s what drew hundreds to pack that venue wall to wall.
It reminded me what matters most and who I want to become.
I lost my mom Patricia to cancer when I was 24. Then I lost my brother James just one year later (to cancer again).
My dad is now 82 and dealing with health issues. I don’t know how many more days I’ll get with him. None of us do.
So here’s what I want you to hear:
Not with your head, but with your heart.
Your greatest role isn’t "out there".
It’s here. It’s now.
You’re already playing the lead role in someone’s life.
You get to choose how present you are for it.
Success doesn’t have to come at the cost of your soul.
You don’t need to grind yourself to the bone.
You don’t need to chase.
You don’t need to prove.
You get to shift into alignment.
You get to build a life where your art and your heart are in harmony.
That’s what I’ve built with Actors Audition Club and the Monologue of the Month Club.
That’s what I want for you.
Today I say yes only to the things that feel like a full-body "fuck yes!"
Everything else?
I’d rather be with family.
Or walking Luna.
Or just being in joy.
Because at the end of your life.
It won’t be the resume you remember.
It will be the people. The laughter. The quiet mornings. The time you made for love.
That’s the role that matters most.
So the next time you're faced with that choice: gig vs family, pause and check in for a moment to think about what really matters.
Because that’s not weakness or lack of comitment to your career.
That’s wisdom and commitment to what matters most.
You are the writer, director and the star of your own life.
